The season of Lent is upon us — let us pray it will be a time of spiritual growth and renewal for us all.
Here’s a summary of our Lent activities:
Lent lectures
On Sundays I, II and V of Lent and Palm Sunday at 12.30pm via Zoom. Access details will be circulated in the weekly email (click here to subscribe).
1. Sunday 21 February – Fr Philip Corbett SSC (All Saints, Notting Hill) – What are the Stations of the Cross? How can we follow this devotion under the current restrictions?
2. Sunday 28 February – Fr Josh Delia (Ass’t Curate, St John the Divine, West Worthing) – What are the practicalities of Lent? How can we pursue lenten disciplines this year?
3. Sunday 21 March – Dom Cuthbert Brogan OSB (Abbot, Farnborough Abbey) – How do we make sense of the liturgies of Holy Week?
4. Sunday 28 March – Peter Stevens (Assistant Master of Music, Westminster Cathedral) – How can the music of Holy Week help our devotions? What should we be listening to?
Lent Giving
Each Sunday we will make particular contributions to the foodbank. If you are able, each household is asked to bring along one of each item on each Sunday of Lent (more is, of course, welcome).
Lent I, Sunday 21 February – Soup – please bring a tin of soup per household
Lent II, Sunday 28 February – Pasta – please bring a pack of dried pasta per household
Lent III, Sunday 7 March – Fish – please bring a tin of tinned fish per household
Lent IV, Sunday 14 March – Meat – please bring a tin of tinned meat (e.g. corned beef, tinned mince, etc) per household
Lent V, Sunday 21 March – Vegetables – please bring a tin of tinned vegetables per household
Of course, other donations are also welcome and there is a special collection basket for cash donations towards the work of the foodbank. Please avoid bringing fresh/perishable items.
Lent Devotions
It is not easy for us to gather in church and move around for Stations of the Cross together; however, resources are available in church for individuals to make the devotion of Stations of the Cross individually or in household groups (church is open for 30 minutes before all Masses). There are also prayer resources for use in the home — contact us for more information.
Lent Confessions
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available for half an hour before all midweek Masses, at other times an appointment can be made with a priest if you contact us. Guidance can be given if you haven’t made your Confession before or have fallen out of the habit.
